Services

We provide a range of water and sanitation related consulting services to many sectors of the community. We help communities, aid organisations, resource companies and industry to meet their water supply, water quality, sanitation and environmental monitoring requirements.

Water Quality Monitoring and Training

We work with our clients to understand their water uses and advise on water quality monitoring approaches. This includes participatory consultation around water quality objectives,  and recommending treatment requirements for aesthetic and health needs. We provide sampling and analysis of water sources to provide independent baseline review and ongoing monitoring. Our capabilities cover:

  • Water quality sampling, analysis and evaluation for compliance or other purposes
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) surveys

Using modern portable instruments, we provide In-situ water analysis for a number of water quality parameters which are critical for drinking water, environmental and other requirements.

In addition we have an established relationship with a global leader in the provision of Environmental Chemistry Laboratory Services for our other analysis needs. We will design a sampling and analysis program to suit your requirement. We collect samples in the field, package and ship them to the laboratory to ensure Chain of Custody (CoC) integrity. All results are reviewed prior to reporting back to you with our assessment (if requested). We  encourage the participation of local people in this process and also provide formal training to assist with knowledge transfer and capacity building.

Training – Surface water sampling and analysis

Axiom has designed a training course to meet the requirements of the “AHCLPW313 Undertake sampling and testing of water” Unit Of Competency & the Queensland Monitoring and Sampling Manual 2009 V2 (DERM). The course is designed to meet the needs of industry and land managers more generally. While addressing the skills and knowledge requirements of the Unit, we incorporate specific requirements for a your site, such as  related procedures and analytes of interest to contextualise the training delivery and assessment for your trainees.

Integrated Water Management

Integrated Water Management (IWM)  promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner, without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.

Our services in this area include:

  • Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) for community-led planning.
  • Rural/remote community water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) consultation.
  • Rural/remote water supply design and project management.
  • Design and implementation of community-led development programs with a focus on sustainable outcomes.
  • Development of water resource policy and planning and project implementation.
  • Community capacity building and governance training.

Rural Water Supply Design

Please talk to us about your water supply needs if you are in a remote or regional area. We work with communities, individual property owners, natural resources projects or Government to provide customised, sustainable water supply solutions.

We will work with you to assess the water quality and flow rate needed to meet your needs. We size and design water supply systems for rural (village) communities, remote resources sector operations and individual landowners. We provide full system designs including water source selection, determining storage needs, water treatment needs, and water supply pipeline design. Our designs can be converted to Bills of Materials to specify and cost the installation.

Customised Designs

We work with our clients to assess the water quality and flow rate requirements for each situation. We specify water supply systems suited to each client’s context, using appropriate techniques and standard materials to suit that situation. Our full services include water source assessment, determining storage and treatment needs, and water supply pipeline hydraulic designs. We then produce a Bill of Materials (BoM) , design drawings and other documents required to specify and price the materials and installation. We can also support installation and provide training as required.

Reliability and Low Operating Cost

It is critical that reliability and lifetime ownership costs are considered carefully when implementing water systems. Where possible we design our systems to use gravity to move the water. For remote installations where fuel cost and availability are a concern we prefer to recommend pumps powered by renewable energy sources.Where pumping is required, we evaluate the various options available including petrol/diesel pumps, 240VAC electric pumps, solar, water and wind-powered pumps to select the option that best serves the client’s situation.

Village Level Operation and Maintenance (VLOM) Hand Pumps

In very poor rural situations, the installation of a simple hand pump on a well, bore or stream can improve household access to clean water, particularly for children and the elderly. Axiom has designs for VLOM pumps built from standard PVC pressure pipe and a few simple hardware items. These pumps can be built and maintained by individual households to facilitate improved access to safer water supplies when combined with protecting an open well. We provide training in the construction and maintenance of these pumps and can help establish village level enterprises to make and sell them to communities.

Glockemann Water Pumps

If there is a suitable flowing water source available, we collaborate with Glockemann Water Pumps Pty Ltd to provide “energy free” pumping from flowing water sources. These Australian made pumps use the energy of the flowing water to pump the water from the stream.

These pumps only require between 0.6 and 1.8m of inlet head to pump from 100 to 1000 litres per hour against a maximum of 200 metres of total head. With few moving parts, robust construction and service life of more than 20 years, these pumps are a great option for remote and rural locations. See the Glockemann Water Pumps Pty Ltd website for more details or contact us for more information.

Desalination

Applying skills developed as a desalination specialist over 18 years we lead the preparation of desalination facility designs, cost estimates, tender/bidding documentation, tender management, commissioning and operations. Experience includes 6 years of operations oversight desalination plant operations. Remote and regional area desalination experience includes facilities in Ravensthorpe, Roxby Downs, Mount Newman, Phosphate Hill, Leonora, Ballarat, Yabulu, Cessnock, Hayman Island, Agnes Water, Gladstone on mainland Australia, New Plymouth (New Zealand), Amursk (Russia).
