Gold Production Process Review In The Russian Federation

DevMin International was engaged by Polymetal AGMK in the Russian Federation, to provide process and equipment reliability specialist services. Polymetal operate a facility at Amursk, extracting gold from concentrates using a combination of Pressure Oxidation (POX) and cyanide leaching processes.

DevMin had a need for representation on site by a person with process knowledge and understanding of the operating environment.

Axiom staff had previously been on site to undertake a detailed review of the water reclamation plant (Reverse Osmosis) and to develop a remediation plan to help Polymetal to make badly needed process improvements.

Axiom Water Technologies was engaged by DevMin to provide specialist process chemistry support to Polymetal in Amursk for the POX process.

The Project

Axiom’s Director, Peter Sharry, filled the role on site. The duties involved:

  • Process data analysis for the current and previous concentrate processing campaign.
  • Evaluation of oxygen plant performance against design.
  • Oxygen mass balance establishment around the POX autoclave and verification against design and campaign target values.
  • Verification of theoretical versus actual POX oxygen demand.
  • Investigation of causes of gold and oxygen losses from the treatment process.

Services were delivered on a rostered, full time basis on site in Russia. Due to the language difference, the services of a translator were provided by DevMin and Axiom staff undertook basic Russian language training prior to and during the project.
